If you are in the market for a midsize pickup during our Truck of the Month sale, stop by Classic Chevy to test drive Motortrend’s Truck of the Year: The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The new Colorado features several engines, including 2.8-liter Duramax diesel that puts out 181 horsepower. Chevy is the only manufacturer that offers a diesel in the midsize range.

The diesel version, while heavier than some of the other midsize trucks out there, was engineered so that it feels more like a crossover; and that means that it handles quite well on the road and gives you a comfortable ride. The truck never feels as though it’s struggling to get moving or stay moving. It even tows smoothly, all because of the torque the diesel engine provides. While hauling a 7,600-pound trailer, the LT trim level ran the quarter mile in 23.4 seconds. The 369 pound-feet of torque made hauling 500 pounds up the strenuous Davis Dam grade – 11.2 miles of hill – seem like it was 50 pounds

As far as gas mileage, Chevy had not released those numbers as of the time Motortrend tested the vehicle, but testers got 23.2 mpg* in the city and 31.4 mpg* on the highway, making it the “most fuel-efficient midsize truck on the market,” according to the publication.

The Duramax diesel isn’t the only Chevy midsize truck that gets excellent gas mileage. The Colorado with the 2.5-liter and 3.6-liter gas engines were also at the top of the class for fuel economy.

The Duramax option is available only the LT and Z71 trim levels, and while the price is higher, these trucks also offer more features. The Z71 gets a standard trailering package and the LT gets a locking rear differential, safety and convenience packages as standard equipment, thus raising the price a tad.

Other features include six airbags, hill start assist, stability control with rollover mitigation and hill descent control.

The Colorado also has several options, including navigation, a spray-in bedliner, and a safety package with lane departure warning and forward collision alert.
